I have lived in Japan for 6 years and enjoy calisthenics/street workout. These are the best parks in Tokyo for calisthenics and the types of workouts you can do. Some might require some basic knowledge of calisthenics.

1. Hibiya Park 日比谷公園

The best park in Tokyo for calisthenics is Hibiya Park. It is located in the center of Tokyo with great access from the subway and JR trains.

Not only it Hibiya Park filled with strong athletes you can learn from, it has a great variety of equipment including pull up bars, benches, parallel bars, and monkey bars.

The park has 6 pull up bars in 3 different heights. However, as someone who is 185 cm (6 ft 2 in), you will noticed that they are a bit too small. In order for you to do a full rep (completely locked out arm) pull up, you will need to bend your knees. Even training planches (bottom right photo) will be difficult. As you can see, I am spreading my legs as much as possible and my feet still touch the bar. For pro calisthenics athletes, the pull up bars is that they are too thin. It is impossible to keep a false grip for front level pull ups or hefestos.

The park has a 3 benches which are all similar to the one in the below photo. Great for sit ups or dragon flags. In the background of the photo, you can see the children’s park. It has a parallel bar which is pretty thick and the perfect height for dips. As someone who does a lot of handstands on parallel bars, I do not recommend doing it there. The benches are made from stainless steel and are slightly slippery. You might slip if you are doing dips. If you slip doing handstands, you could be severely injured. Since they are slippery, they are not good for front level pull ups or hefestos.

My favorite “parallel bars” are these located in front of the pull up bars…
