Dagashiya Japanese Candy Store

Dagashiya is a famous Japanese old candy store that Japanese kids like to go to when they were little. They sell a variety of Japanese snacks, cookies, crackers, and toys like samurai swords, tamagochi, and more.

In this article I will talk about the top snacks that Japanese people like to buy at a Dagashiya and a brief history about it. The most popular snack here is flavored mochi candy. They have a variety of different flavored candy mochi like green apple, cherry, grape, and soda. It is soft like a mochi and you eat it with a tooth pick inside of the package. It costs 30 yen. My Japanese friends said that when they were little, they used to get 300 yen when going on field trips and they could buy whatever they want at these stores.

Mochi Candy

Most of the snacks here cost 10–100 yen. Many of the more popular snacks sold here allow kids to pretend that they are adults. Like for instance the above mochi snack. Most kids can’t eat much mochi and they do not eat it very much at home so it makes kids feel like an adult. Besides that, they have snacks that look like tobacco or even cola that are sweet and don’t harm their health in particular (besides the sugar intake).
