77 Year Old Japanese Front Lever Beast
The Biggest Risk is Not Taking One!
I am writing this article in honor of one of my dear friend that passed away this past week. He was 77 years old and definitely one of the strongest at his age. At the park that I train at, it isn’t strange to see someone who is past their 60’s doing muscle ups, front lever, or even handstands. My friend was an inspiration and he gave us motivation to continue to improve not only on calisthenics but our job and our studies as well.
He started calisthenics in 2016 in June when he was 71 years old! Shibata-san showed us that no matter what age you are, as long as you have passion and consistently train for you, you can achieve it. Being able to consistently improve and train his body in a sport that he enjoys brought him joy. If he was like most people, he wouldn’t have even attempted front lever at his age or even go outside of his house because of coronavirus. However, he still went to the park while keeping his distance from other people and still trained. Happiness is not achieving the goal but the pursuit of happiness. Improving everyday and grinding to achieve a goal is happiness.
